HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR PORTRAITS ARE A HUGE DEAL

They document that time in your life when you’re still dependent on your parents, but oh so ready to step out on your own. These pictures are sent to everyone you and your parents know, and they will hang on your parent’s wall for years, maybe even decades. My senior pictures are still hanging up at my parent’s; granted they’ve been rotated to their bedroom walls, but they’re still hanging nonetheless.

Because this is such an important time in your life, and because no two seniors are alike, I like to work with you as an individual to build a portrait session that reflects who YOU are. We’ll build a session that is unique to you and is something that no one else in your class is doing.

Whether you’re a sports enthusiast or a fashionista, we’ll find off-the-beaten-path locations around Metro Milwaukee, creating a fun and easy-going session to give you some amazing senior portraits.

Let’s go on an adventure together!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Just about all high school seniors want their portraits done on-location vs. at my studio. The location can be a place that’s meaningful to you or your family, it can be somewhere that represents who you are and what you like to do (at a skate park for example), or the location can be selected specifically for background colors.

For example, you may absolutely love beach volleyball, in which case a good location would be Grant Park Beach, Milwaukee’s Lakefront, Bender Park, or Klode Park, where we can get casual photographs in a beach environment as well as some action shots while playing beach volleyball. You and your family may spend weekends downtown Milwaukee shopping, eating at a variety of restaurants, going to events, and visiting museums. In that case, the Riverwalk in Third Ward, the Art Museum, or Discovery World would be perfect.

These sessions are usually booked between June 15 and August 25. However, some seniors wish to have the autumn colors in the background and wait until October. Most people prefer summertime sessions as the days are longer, and schedules are a bit more open; once school begins, schedules are jam-packed with sports and school activities. I recommend booking the main date for your session, along with a backup date in case of inclement weather. It’s easier to plan ahead and have time set aside than it is to find time last minute with everyone’s busy schedules.

If you prefer to wait until September or October, be sure to look up your yearbook photo submission deadline to make sure we have plenty of time to work around possible last-minute date changes. Weather during the fall season here in Wisconsin can be very unpredictable, and when combined with a busy school and sports schedule, we want to be sure we have enough wiggle-room to get your photo sent in on time.

The best time of the day for an outdoor session is either early in the morning at sunrise, or early evening two hours before sunset.

These sessions usually last between 45 minutes to 1.5 hours depending on the number of outfits and number of locations.

If it’s raining on your session day we’ll reschedule for the following week, or for the next opening you have in your calendar, ensuring we meet your yearbook photo submission deadline.

During the week of your session, I keep a close eye on the weather and will be communicating my findings with you. If it looks like there’s a possibility of rain on your session day, and you have a salon appointment booked, we’ll be sure and make a final decision to either take a chance and move forward or to postpone, at least 24 hours in advance so you can also reschedule with your salon.

If it’s raining (or chance of rain) and you don’t have a salon appointment scheduled, we can keep an eye on the radar and make a last minute decision if needed. For example, it could rain in the morning and early afternoon stopping at 3:30 or 4:00 pm allowing us to go ahead with your session.

I highly recommend investing in having your hair and makeup styled professionally. You can book an appointment at your regular salon, or you can choose to work with my makeup artist/hairstylist who comes to my studio for an additional $150 over and above the session fee and print/product order.

High school seniors usually bring about three outfits, from casual to casual dressy. Your clothing should match your personality and should be the style that you normally wear. If you buy new clothes for your portrait session, make sure you’ll wear the items again—this isn’t the time to try something new. Make sure everything fits, and you’re comfortable. If you’re wearing an outfit that you feel amazing in, that empowered energy will show through in the photo—the better you feel inside, the better your pictures will turn out.

Muted solid colors are perfect for outdoor portraits. It’s best to stay away from distracting large bold patterns. Small patterns on a dress or blouse work perfectly, and guys look good in plaid or checkered shirts. Flowing dresses with a fitted waist look beautiful for outdoor photos. Jeans are perfect as they add texture to the photo. Shorts and skirts are perfect with a cute fitted top. Tennis shoes, sandals, wedges, and heels are all perfect. Be sure to bring comfortable shoes for walking if we’re meeting at the beach or a park.

Great places to shop for outfits: Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, Zara, Free People, and Madewell.

If sports means a great deal to you and is a big part of your high school experience, then I would recommend incorporating that into your session. We will have fun capturing some action shots along with posed photos, so you have a nice selection to choose from. If track, volleyball, etc. was a fun thing to do but didn’t really mean that much, then let’s spend time getting photos of you in another cute outfit instead.

Yes! I’m happy to submit your yearbook photo for you. Since I work with many seniors throughout the Metro Milwaukee area, I do require that you pass along submission information for your high school to ensure it goes to the right place/person. Each school is a bit different in their requirements and deadlines.

If you prefer to take care of your yearbook photo submission yourself, that’s perfectly fine. I will send you the digital file, sized accordingly, so it’s ready for you to email or upload to the high school system.

I’d love to meet with you in person prior to your session if you have time; if not, we’ll talk on the phone, so we can ask and answer questions as needed about outfits, location, etc.

From there, we’ll meet for your scheduled session and spend about 1.5 hours together, having fun and capturing some amazing portraits!

One week after your session, we’ll meet in person at my studio for your reveal where you’ll get to pick out your favorite images for your order of digitals, prints, albums, and invitations.

I’ll retouch your selections and send images to my professional print lab. You’ll receive your products about one week after the reveal.

There’s approximately a two week turn-around time from your session date to getting your digital images and/or prints.

Yes. I retouch your images to professional quality, without overdoing it. I remove any blemishes, lighten eyes, remove lint from clothing, and remove any significant out of place strands of hair.

Don’t be afraid to reach out for any questions you have that weren’t answered here. I can be reached at 262-623-4762 or hello@tinaerdmann.com.
